With over 1900 manufacturers of power supplies worldwide, it becomes a hard job to make a well-considered choice of the correct power supply for your application. Therefore, MechaTronix works with 8 of the finest and most re-nominated power companies worldwide, each with their own strengths and specialism.
To make and adequate quotation, we would like to ask you to provide the maximum of the following details:
- Format and available space (see below)
- Application (to determine the needed approvals)
- Load & voltages (if needed, please provide nominal, peak currents, duty cycle)
- Temperature and air flow
- Needed life time and MTBF
- Needed isolation voltage (if special like railway, medical,...)
- Quantity per yera + lifetime of the project + time lines
The AC/DC power supplies are mainly divided by following formats:

Open Frame Power 5~500W
- The trends in open frame power is smaller design and lower height
- To reach this mainly the switching topology and the efficiency are improved
- New formats 4"x2" now already reach up to 100W
- Most important consideration is the air flow

Closed Frame Power - 5~2,500W
- Can be divided in fanless and fan cooled types, with and without active PFC
- Same like open frame, the main tendency is smaller design and lower profile
- Certainly for 1U build applications, the new design of power supplies lower than 43mm are most common

U-Frame Power - 40~500W
- Can be compared to open frame, but mostly for thermal reasons the U-frame acts like a large heat sink
- U-frame power supplies are worldwide applied in telecom applications

DIN Rail Power- 10~960W mono and 3 fase
- The unification of DIN rail use is today highly accepted in the industrial applications
- Din rail power supplies become more and more compact to save DIN rail space and start to change from only the classic 24VDC applications to all common voltages battery chargers,...

Module Power (PCB mount)- 5~30W
- Instead of creating an own designed power source on board, for small power applications a module power can give the ideal solution.
- Foreseen of all safety aspects to meet the CE normations this is a low budget solution for applications between 3 and 30W

Modular Power- 200~2,000W
- When an application needs a combination of voltages which can not be found in the market or when a specialĀ voltage needs to be created, a modular power supply is most likely to be the ideal solution besides creating a custom power supply.

19" Vertical Power (cassettes)- 40~4,000W
- These power supplies become less and less popular in the last years because of the high prices compared to closed frame and open frame power supplies.
- Recently some Asian manufacturers have taken over this market what makes it economically reconsiderable to reuse power cassettes.

19" Horizontal Power (shelve- 100~40,000W)
- Coming from the Telecome filed, but more and more applied in machine building to create distributed power systems.
- Also here the high-end Asian manufacturers are opening a totally new price world in these systems.
- Our systems offer standardisation, hot swap function, remote readout and unbeatable prices.

Desktop Power- 5~150W
- Recently desktop power is more and more integrated in the industrial field. The main advantage is for sure thatĀ use of a desktop adapter makes that the safety approvals of your total application become a lot simpler. While power stopped before at 40W, now desktop adapters range up to 150W for standard models.
Wall Mount Power- 2~30W
- For the same reason as desktop, adapters also used in the industrial field.
- Max power today in wall mount is 30W.
